The Institute for Arab and Mediterranean Cultures in Geneva (ICAM) invites the Photoforum Pasquart for a round table on Algerian photography, on the initiative of political scientist Sarah Dekkiche.

While new efforts towards reconciliation between the French and Algerian peoples are beginning on both sides of the Mediterranean, Algeria remains deeply marked by its colonial past. From its painful history to its complex present, how should we look at Algeria today? How can its identity, the different facets of daily life and its political issues be told? What role can the photographic image play in this process? We will address these issues through the eyes of those who live through them and translate them into images, and who have chosen to highlight some of the important moments in the history of Algeria.

With:
Danaé Panchaud, Director, Photoforum Pasquart
Abdo Shanan, Photographer, member of the Collective 220
Emilien Itim, Photographer

Moderator: Sarah Dekkiche (political scientist and consultant)

The discussion will be followed by drinks.

The event takes place at ICAM: rue de Fribourg 5, 1201 Geneva.

Admission is free but registration is mandatory via the ICAM’s website: https://www.icamge.ch/agenda/
