Collaborations

Mon point de vue

An entire magazine – from its theme to its content and form – will be elaborated during five meetings at the Photoforum by a group of teenagers. They are invited to use photography to convey their interests, concerns and points of view as well as give an overview of their life. Their contributions will make their identity as young Muslims living in Switzerland visible. The photographer Pauline Aellen, the graphic designer duo Sifon (Fanchon Cartier and Simon Moser) and the art educator Carol Baumgartner will accompany and support them with inputs in the fields of photography, storytelling, editing and design, and, if necessary, with texts.

The project has started in January 2018 and the magazine will be publicly presented on 18 April 2018 at the Photoforum. A display of the project will be visible in the foyer of the Pasquart from 18 to 21 April 2018.

ADA x TOBS – Tell me

Several institutions which have received support for their digital projects from the Culture Office of the State of Bern have decided to collaborate. ADA, the mobile digital atelier of the Photoforum and the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography, takes up residency in the old town at the Theatre Orchestra Biel Solothurn (TOBS). The young actors of the play TELL will shoot videos and photographs on the topic of emotions. Which emotions are particularly challenging to play and which tricks can help the comedians convincingly play them? How do they feel before and after a performance? Their contributions will be edited into a video clip and presented within TOBS’s mosaic project. A selection of photographs and videos will alternatively be presented during the Biel/Bienne Festival of Photography.

The project has started in January 2018 and will be publicly presented in the foyer and windows of TOBS from 9 May to 16 June. The foyer is open Tuesday-Saturday from 9.30 to 12.30 (closed on 10 May). The windows are visible at all times.

The premiere of the play TELL will take place on Wednesday 9 May 2018 at 19.30. Once the spectators are in the spectacle room, the bar in the foyer will be open for the inauguration of the exhibition.

Parcours culturel 2017

The Photoforum Pasquart was the official partner of the 7th Parcours culturel. We supported the four steps of this year’s manifestation on the theme of family with our network of photographers. They documented the events, made portraits of the participants and have produced visual material for the booklet entitled “the Bieler family”. It was presented publicly at the Photoforum on 7 December 2017 during the launch of the second print issue of FLARE.

Step 1 – Family and economy

Saturday 1 April 2017 from 9.00 to 12.30

The first step was articulated around the theme “family and economy” and started in the heart of the city in the presence of the city’s mayor, Erich Fehr. The participants then headed to the bakery “Chez Rüfi” where a photography exhibition traced the history of the bakery, which has been in the hands of the same family for 122 years. The brothers Rüfenarcht are the current owners and work with a multinational team. The last part of the day was spent at the EFFE (school for adult education) with a workshop on entrepreneurship.

Step 2 – Family and politics

Saturday 6 May 2017 from 9.00 to 13.30

This second day was placed under the theme of family and politics. In collaboration with EFFE (a school for continuous education), a bilingual world-café was organised. Several proposals to politicians were elaborated.

Step 3 – Family gathering at Pasquart

Sunday 3 September 2017 from 11.00 to 18.00

This third part of the project took the form of a family gathering in Pasquart, with activities such as guided tours, games for kids and food from all over the world. It celebrated cultural diversity as a characteristic of the city of Biel, and was the highlight of the project.

Step 4 – Family and religion

Sunday 12 November 2017 from 10.00 to 16.00

The last leg of the manifestation had “family and religion” as a topic. The Muslim, Protestant and Jewish communities opened their doors to all citizens, inviting them to share a moment of openness and peace.
