Camera Arts Position – Andrea Orejarena & Caleb Stein
5 June, 17:00 – 18:30
| kostenlosThe Photoforum and the BA Camera Arts programme of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts are pleased to welcome the New York artist duo Andrea Orejarena & Caleb Stein as part of the POSITION@EXTENDED series. In their lecture, the two will give an insight into their joint artistic practice, which is located at the interface of photography, film and collaborative processes.
Lecture
Orejarena & Stein’s collaborative practice examines how images shape collective memory, belief systems, and everyday experience in an age defined by simulation, surveillance, and screen-based life.
In their lecture, the artist duo will present American Glitch, a multimedia project exploring the slippage between fact and fiction across the U.S. landscape and the digital world. The project is the focusof their upcoming exhibition Tactics and Mythologies at PhotoForum Pasquart in Biel and has been presented recently also at Deichtorhallen Hamburg in Germany. Rather than asking whether these images are real, American Glitch invites reflection on how reality is constructed and shared through images. Another project presented will be Glitch Typologies, a 16-channel installation commissioned by Deichtorhallen Hamburg, made from the artists’ glitch archive. These found and AI-altered images often reappear in variations—photographed from different angles or reposted repeatedly—challenging authorship, originality, and perception. Furthermore, the artists will discuss their collaborative process and how their work speaks to broader questions of image circulation, myth-making, and the aesthetics of uncertainty.
Position
Position is a BA Camera Arts programme of events open beyond the walls of the university, offering monthly opportunities to meet the most exciting international experts and artists from the photography world and gain insights into their work, thinking and creation.
