In 2022, the Photoforum’s exhibition programme is dedicated to photographic image archives and their documentation requirements. In the workshops for school classes, we take up the respective annual theme, examine photographic practices with regard to their claim to truth, and focus on the language of the image, image disruptions and visual ruptures of all kinds. In the various workshops, other aspects of sharing, curating, exhibiting and affirming images are examined and linked to photographic practice.

Interactive tour

This interactive tour allows us to explore the exhibition in a playful way. We get closer to the works by asking questions and looking for our own approaches to the images and their claim to truth. The students themselves become mediators and learn from each other.

Bringing images to life

Together we visit the current exhibition at Photoforum Pasquart and then bring the images on display to life! Equipped with iPads, our creativity and the Scratch Junior application, we photograph the works in the exhibition and let them take part in our interactive stories. After an introduction to the application, with which one can easily program a short animation or a game without having to code, the pupils work in small groups. Details of the images on display become characters, objects and landscapes, assembled into invented stories.

Picture stories

In the workshop “Stories in pictures” we take a closer look at what is in a photograph. What does the picture show us, what does it hide? What story does the photograph tell us? We explore the content of different photographs and series of images, and the emotions they evoke, and then learn about body language and facial expressions of emotions. In small groups we imagine our own stories and discover how we can tell them with a series of photographs.

360° – on an adventure with ADA¨

From the zenith to the nadir and back again: after a tour through the current exhibition in a spirit of dialogue, each group will work on one of the exhibition rooms or works in more depth. In this workshop we will discover 360° photography in a playful and experimental way. With the help of iPads, an application, objects, mirrors, poses, gestures, symbols and written words, students will be able to creatively explore the edges of the application.

Blue light and white shadow

The workshop provides an understanding of how images are captured and how they end up on paper or screen. The participants are then invited to experience the cyanotype, an ancient photographic process.

Hidden face

In this workshop, we study the mechanisms of facial recognition and discuss what happens to our images when we put them online. We then use make-up, wigs or masks to change our faces so that they are no longer recognised as faces by the algorithms, thus bypassing the recognition mechanisms of surveillance cameras and facial recognition systems such as Face ID.
